THE COSMIC BOND
and other character dynamics that make me go crazy
the 'cosmic bond' is what i use to refer to the connection between two characters that is larger than them, a connection built from fate. it's a force greater than yourselves, it's mythology it's legend. you are greater than a person you are an icon, elevated by the role you have been assigned.
the cosmic bond is strongly related to parallels and foils, but refers to an almost religious sense of destiny.
the cosmic bond is not strictly romantic, but often is so (in my eyes or in canon.) the cosmic bond is often contrasted by another pairing (though many contain some aspect of the cosmic factor). im going to be honest it's not that strict im just a little crazy!
the cosmic bond is tragic, and cannot be any other way. it must end in heartbreak and bloodshed. there is no other route and there is no way out.
WHO IS COSMICALLY BONDED?
BATMAN AND THE JOKER: two characters so intensely connected by fate it's insane. there's an element of destiny there ("i think we're destined to do this forever") and such a deep connection whilst still hating(?) each other. they have this codependent destructive relationship that damages everyone around them, and themselves, but they simply cannot stop. it's the ouroboros, even in death they come back once more to duel. their 80 year history is like a cycle of same same same, fated to fight until the end of their existence. they are on a mutually assured suicide course.
